In 2023, the import and export trade volume of construction machinery in our country reached $51.063 billion, an increase of 8.57% year-on-year. Among them, the import amount was $2.511 billion, a decrease of 8.03% year-on-year; the export amount was $48.552 billion, an increase of 9.59% year-on-year. The trade surplus was $46.04 billion, an increase of $4.468 billion year-on-year.
(1) Following the substantial increases in 2021 and 2022, the export of construction machinery products in our country continued to grow in 2023, with an annual export value of $48.552 billion, an increase of 9.59% year-on-year. The first half of the year saw robust growth overall, with double-digit increases from February to June. However, the second half of the year showed a general downward trend on a monthly basis, with four months experiencing declines and two months with slight increases, with monthly export values fluctuating around $4 billion.
On a quarterly basis, the first quarter saw exports of $11.702 billion, an increase of 20.6% year-on-year; the second quarter saw exports of $13.29 billion, an increase of 30.8% year-on-year; the third quarter saw exports of $12.121 billion, a decrease of 4.64% year-on-year; and the fourth quarter saw exports of $11.439 billion, a decrease of 2.47% year-on-year.
(2) The export of machinery units outperformed the import of parts, with high-value-added construction machinery exports performing well. In 2023, the cumulative export value of machinery units reached $34.134 billion, an increase of 16.4% year-on-year, accounting for 70.3% of the total export value. The export value of parts was $14.417 billion, accounting for 29.7% of the total export value, with a year-on-year decrease of 3.81%. The export growth rate of machinery units was 20.26% higher than that of parts. The export value of high-value-added construction machinery continued to grow rapidly. For example, the export value of other excavators increased by 144% year-on-year. The export value of dozers with over 320 horsepower increased by 132.59% year-on-year. The export value of rollers increased by 132.59% year-on-year. The export value of truck cranes with a maximum lifting capacity of over 100 tons increased by 107.2% year-on-year. The export value of other all-terrain cranes increased by 81.4% year-on-year. The export value of all-ground cranes with a maximum lifting capacity of over 100 tons increased by 73.3% year-on-year. The export value of truck cranes increased by 73.1% year-on-year. The export value of tower cranes increased by 67.1% year-on-year. The export value of tractors increased by 62.7% year-on-year. The export value of other construction vehicles increased by 62.6% year-on-year. The export value of asphalt mixers increased by 57.7% year-on-year. The export value of concrete pumps increased by 44.46% year-on-year. The export value of crawler cranes increased by 44.4% year-on-year. The export value of concrete mixing trucks increased by 43.4% year-on-year. The export value of other truck cranes increased by 36% year-on-year. The export value of electric forklifts increased by 34.9% year-on-year. The export value of off-road dump trucks increased by 26.1% year-on-year. The export value of tunnel boring machines increased by 16% year-on-year.
